1) MUSIC AND DANCE WORKSHOPS at the University of Arizona School of Music
Wednesday-Friday July 30-August 1 from 8am-8pmMusic & Dance Workshops hosted at the University of Arizona School of Music: Flamenco, Salsa, Hip Hop, Folklorico, Mariachi, Tejano, Guitar Trio, Classical Flamenco Guitar, Zumba and Voice. The workshops will be taught by professional artists of each performing arts discipline to students of all ages, from novice, intermediate, and advanced levels. This year's mariachi workshops will be directed by Grammy Nominee Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez. The Hip Hop workshops will be taught by Buddha Stretch MTV Video Choreographer Nominee. 2) VIVA FIESTA in front of UA Centennial Hall
Saturday, August 2 from 3pm-6pmThe Arizona Historical Society (AHS) is partnering with Viva Arizona! to present the Viva Participant Showcase Fiesta, whcih will include a participant showcase where participants from the conference will demonstrate their accomplishments along with other entertainment. The AHS will conduct a Storycorps program at the Fiesta, modeled on Naional Public Radio's oral history project of that name, where the attendees can reminisce about how music and dance has influenced them in their everyday lives. The AHS educational program of the Fiesta will present the evolution of Hispanic music and dance in its social, cultural and historic context. AHS's will draw heavily on their archives and collections to provide photographs and documents to support the educational component of the Fiesta $ Viva Arizona! Concert. Authentic Mexican and Spanish food and drinks will be also be available at the Fiesta.
3) "VIVA ARIZONA!" 100 Years of Hispanic Musical Memories
Concert at the University of Arizona Centinnial Hall
Saturday August 2, 2008 at 7pmA Musical and Dance Production-showcasing the History and Evolution of Tucson's Hispanic Musical Heritage. Featuring: Special Guest Jose Hernandez and Mariachi Sol de Mexico, IMAS, Hernandez Perez Trio, Olga Flores, Jesse Tovar's Viva Orchestra, the Viva Arizona Dancers and much more.
4) VIP Reception:
August 2, 2008 10pm University Marriott Park$65 Viva Arizona Ticket holders will receive a VIP reception pass to attend a private reception with Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez and other entertainers from the Viva Arizona! Concert at the Marriott Hotel. Proceeds benefit the Elisa Gastellum Memorial Foundation.
